I don’t know if you’re like me, but I start each new year with a lot of enthusiasm and energy: the idea of starting fresh and kickstart all the projects I want to take forward fills me with joy!

But we’re not going to lie to each other, 2020 is already a special year: July is here, and a lot has already happened that has impacted us collectively and individually. Most of us have spent a few weeks (at least) in lockdown, and had all their plans disrupted by the Covid-19 crisis.

But I truly believe that we can always learn something from our experiences, whatever they may be… And that’s why I wanted to give you the opportunity to slow down for a bit, and have a look back at the first half of the year, so that you can get back on track to conquer your projects and your goals!

Why making a half-year review?

If you’re familiar with what we share on the blog, or follow The Minimal Plan on Instagram, you know that around here, making reviews on a regular basis is a well-established habit!

Whether it’s a quick review at the end of the week, the end of the month or even a full 12-month reflection, taking stock of your progress regularly is key to fuel your motivation. It allows you to (non-exhaustive list) :

✔️ go back over your most memorable memories
✔️ acknowledge and celebrate the progress you’ve made towards your current goals.
✔️ take a step back from the challenges encountered and draw useful lessons for the future
✔️
underline the small and big things that bring you joy
✔️
identify areas for progress, things you want to change
✔️
start planning ahead the actions/projects you want to launch in the light of your review

In short, the idea is always to make a kind review of the first half of the year, and to reconnect with what matters to you to get off on the right foot for the next 6 months.

Making a half year review allows you to take a step back to gain perspective, and to “process” the first 6 months of the year smoothly, before you decide what you’d like the next 6 months to be like.

To help you make a kind and useful mid-year review, I’ve designed a printable pdf for you to print, to paste in your PROJO planner or in your bullet journal.

It is divided into 2 main parts:

  • In the first part, you will take stock of everything that happened during the first 6 months of the year: important events, happy memories, challenges, the projects in which you invested your time and energy, and what you learned during these first 6 months of the year.
Which is already a lot for just an A5 spread!
  • On the second page of the printable file, you will start to project yourself into the second part of the year. You will brainstorm about: what you would like to change or improve, the ideas you want to explore in the coming months, and finally, the ONE priority you want to give yourself for the next few months.

Making a half of year review to move forward

So you see that there’s a lot to think about in this half of year review… But that’s how you get a useful review!

Help yourself to a good cup of coffee (or herbal tea if it’s 6 p.m.), get comfortable and take some one to one time with your notebook, your pen and the questions I’ve put in this half year review to help you move forward!

There’s nothing like a good paper and pencil session to free your mind and refocus on what matters to you! And that’s a good way to start the next 6 months with a clear vision of what you’d like to happen and a little more confidence about your ability to face any kind of challenge!
